70 Getting Started with IBM Data Studio for DB2 2.2 Working with your DB2 databases In this section you will learn how to create a new database, or work with an existing database. You will also learn how to connect to a database, create connection profiles, and explore database objects. 2.2.1 Creating a new database To create a new database in the Administration Explorer: 1. In the Administration Explorer, click on the down arrow next to the New drop-down arrow to expand the options. Select New Database as shown in Figure 2.3. Figure 2.3 – Creating a new database from the Administration Explorer 2. In the New Database window, complete the required fields for the instance where the database will reside. The instance detail fields are explained in Table 2.1 and illustrated in Figure 2.4.

You can uselocalhost for a database on the local machine. The port number where the instance is listening. By default, DB2 instances use port 50000.
