You can configure the web console to send you an alert when it identifies a problem <strong>with</strong> a<br />

database that it is monitoring. The web console generates alerts based on the thresholds<br />

and settings that you specify. When you add a new database <strong>for</strong> monitoring, a default<br />

configuration of thresholds and settings is already specified <strong>for</strong> you. You can alter the<br />

default configurations from the Health alert configurations page as described in Section<br />

4.5.4. You can view the generated alerts by clicking the Open menu, and then selecting<br />

either Health -> Health Summary or Health -> Alerts.<br />

The Health Summary provides a grid of summary health in<strong>for</strong>mation <strong>for</strong> each monitored<br />

database, as shown in Figure 4.4.<br />

The alert icons in the grid cells identify a database status (Normal, Warning, or Critical)<br />

across categories such as data server, connections, storage, and recovery. A double dash<br />

(--) in a cell indicates that no alerts were issued in the selected time frame, as indicated by<br />

the time duration selection in the upper left hand corner of Figure 4.4. Each icon represents<br />

a summary of one or more individual alerts that were encountered <strong>for</strong> the selected duration<br />

of that specific database. For example, if you had two Storage alerts <strong>for</strong> a database, one<br />

Critical and one Warning, then the alert summary icon would identify this as Critical. When<br />

you click on the cell, you can drill down to the individual alerts themselves that detail the<br />

problems, including any appropriate actions you should take.<br />

You can view alerts <strong>for</strong> specific time periods by selecting the Summary time drop-down<br />

menu, currently set at 60 minutes in Figure 4.4. If you set your recent summary to 60<br />

minutes, as shown in Figure 4.5, the Recent view will give you a summary of alerts that<br />

occurred during the last hour. The refresh summary is set <strong>for</strong> 5 minutes, which means the<br />

status will be checked every 5 minutes. You should set the refresh time to be more<br />

frequent than the total summary period. Note that it is possible that no alerts are raised<br />

during the most recent period.
