MIND, MATTER AND GOD : JIVA, JADA AND ISVARA M.M.NINAN The formless form refered here is the Sivalingam which is seen in all Siva temples. Since God Siva is all, He manifests himself in various forms. Sambupaksha Thirumeni is when God manifest to do a certain activity by Himself. Anupaksha Thirumeni is when God does His functions through another evolved soul Our body and God’s body are totally different. Our body is a product of Maya which is called Karumeni. As per our karma, when we are dead, we leave this body behind. Tirumantiram verse 1421. “Having learned all that learned must be. Having practised all yoga that have to be, They, then, pursue the path of Jnana in graduation sure, And so pass into the world of Formless Sound beyond; And there, rid of all impurities, Envision the Supreme, the Self-created; They, forsooth, are the Saiva Siddhantis true. To help souls to evolve from their bonded state to liberation and bliss, God performs the five fold activities or Aintholil : Creation, Protection, Destruction, Concealment and Grace "Mrutyunjayaaya Rudraaya Neelakantaaya Shambhave Amriteshaaya Sarvaaya Mahadevaaya Te Namaha" “Lord Mahadeva (Shiva) has conquered death. He is the destructive force of the universe. He has a blue neck and he gives happiness to all. This concept is depicted in the united half man half woman icons . Sakthi actually means Power, a direct reference to the Power that is the Holy Spirit. This representation in Saivism is known as the Ardha Nareeswara. (Ardha = half; Naree = Woman ; Iswara = God. Thus Ardha Nareeshwara would mean God who is half woman) You can not differentiate God, they are one in substance. There is no Siva without Sakthi. Even the ideal of human marriage is based on this oneness of Godhead, that they may be one Ardha Nareeswara – God who is half male and half female 179
