Ihn Ishnq stated, Sacid h. Aha Hind related to me, from Aha Murra, the
freed-man of 'Uqayl b. Aha Talib, that Umm Hani', the daughter of Aha Tdih,
said, "When the Messenger of God (SAAS) made a halt in the heights of Mecca,
two of my brothers-in-law of Bana Makhziim fled to me."
Ibn Hishiim stated, "The two men were al-Harith b. Hishiim and Zuhayr b.
Aha Umayya b. al-Mughira."
Ibn Ishaq went on to quote her as saying that while she was in the home of
Hubayra h. Aha Wahb al-Makhzmi, L'My brother 'Ali h. Ahii Tnlib came in and
said, 'I swear by God, I'll kill them hoth!' So I locked the door of my house on
both men and went to the Messenger of God (SAAS) who was in the heights of
Mecca. I found him engaged in washing himself from a basin that had in it some
traces of dough; his daughter Fnea was shielding hi with his clothing. When
he had finished washing, he wrapped his garment around himself and performed
eight rakaCat of the al-duh~"~ prayer. He then came over to me and said, 'Welcome
indeed to you, Umm Hmi'! And what brings you now?' I told him about the two
men and 'Ah and he responded, 'We give protection to those you protect and
immunity to those to whom you extend it. We will not execute them."'
Al-Bukhnri stated that Aha al-Walid related to him, quoting Shu'ba, from
'Amr h. Murra, from the son of Aha Layla, who said, "No one informed us
of having seen the Prophet (SAAS) perform the al-duhd prayer except Umm
Hiini'." She related that on the day of the conquest of Mecca, he washed himself
in her house and then perfonned eight prayer prostrations. She said, "And I
never saw hi offer a lighter prayer than that, though he did perform the rukac,
the bowings, and the sujfid, the prostrations, completely."
In the jahih collection of Muslim there is a hadirh of al-Layth, from Yazid b.
Aha Habib, from Sa'd h. Abn Hind, which states that Ahii Murra, the freed-man
of 'Aqil, reported that Umm Hmi', daughter of Aba Talib, related to him that
at the conquest of Mecca two men of Bana Makhzam fled to her and that she
gave them refuge. She said, '"Ali came in to me and told me, 'I'm going to kill
them hoth!' Having heard this, I went to the Messenger of God (SAAS), who
was in the heights of Mecca. When he saw me he welcomed me and asked why
I had come. I replied, 'Messenger of God, I've been giving refuge to two of my
brothers-in-law, hut 'Ali wants to kill them.' The Messenger of God (SAAS)
responded, 'We give protection to whomever you have protected, Umm mi'.'
He then set about washing himself, while Faema screened him and when he had
finished he wrapped himself in his garment and prayed eight superogatory
rakacat of the d~ha prayer."
In one account she is reported to have come in while he was washing and
Fiitima was screening him with his clothing. The account goes on, "He asked,
'Who is the woman?' 'It is Umm Hmi',' she replied. :Welcome indeed to Umm
Hail!' he said. She told him, 'Messenger of God, my brother 'Ali h. Aba Tnlib
is going to kill two men to whom I have given protection.' He responded, 'We
