""'Meanwhile, the an@r were down below and were telling one another, 'The
man is seized by a desire to be in his village and he has a feeling of compassion
for his tribe!"'
'"Abii Hurayra went on, 'Then revelation came to hi. It was never hidden
from us when this came, and no one would raise his gaze to the Messenger of
God (SAAS) until it was at an end." "'
Hashim stated, "When the revelation was over, he raised his head and said, '0
an@r, did you just say, "The man is seized by a desire to he in his village and
by compassion for his tribe?"' They replied, 'Yes, Messenger of God, we did
say that.' 'What then should I be called? Absolutely not! I am God's servant and
His messenger. I migrated to God and to you. It is with you I shall live and with
you I shall die.'
"Those present then went up to him, weeping and saying, 'We only said what
we did because of our passion for God and His messenger.' He then said, LGod
and His messenger believe you and forgive you."'
Muslim and al-Nasz'i relate this from a hadith of Sulaymm b. al-Mughira.
Al-Nasn'i added the name of Salam h. Miskin.
Muslim also related it from a hadith of Hammzd b. Salama, all three sources
quoting Thzbit, from 'Abd Allah b. Rab& the an@ri, who lived in al-Basra,
from Abii Hurayra in similar words.
Ibn Hisham stated that a scholar told hi
that Fadala b. 'Umayr b. al-Mulawwah
- al-Laythi, that is - wanted to kill the Prophet (SAAS) as he was circumambulating
the kacba at the time of the conquest of Mecca. When the man
approached hi, the Messenger of God (SAAS) asked hi, "'Is that Fadda?'
'Yes, Fadaa, Messenger of God,' he replied. He next asked, 'And what was it
you were just telling yourself?' He replied, 'Nothmg; I was repeating the name
of God.' The Prophet (SAAS) laughed and said, 'Seek God's forgiveness!' and
he placed his hand on Fadda's chest and his heart became calm.
"Fadda used to say, 'I swear by God, by the time he took his hand away from
my chest, none of God's creation was more beloved by me than him.'
"Fadnla stated, 'I went back to my family and went by to see a woman with
whom I would talk. She asked, 'Are you coming in to talk?'
"But Fadda declined and proceeded to speak the verses,
'She said, "come on in and talk!" He replied, "No; God
and Islam forbid you that.
Had you but seen Muhammad and his advance at the
Conquest, the day when the idols were smashed,
You would have seen God's religion fully visible while
the face of idolatry was covered in darkness.""'
Ihn Ishnq stated that Muhammad b. Jacfar b. al-Zubayr related to him, from
Wrwa, from CA'isha, who said, "Safwxn h. Umayya left to go to Jidda to take a
boat from there to Yemen. Wmayr b. Wahb told the Messenger of God (SAAS),
