We were not slow or ineffectual; they found we did not
stumble. as did all the rest!"'
An Account of the dissatisfaction of some who were ignorant, divisive
and hypocritical towards the Messenger of God ( WS)
concerning the just distributions he made by agreement.
Al-Bukhzri stated that Qabisa related to him, quoting Sufysn, from al-A'mash,
fi-om Abn W2i1, from 'Abd All&, who said, "When the Prophet (SAAS) divided
up the spoils of Hunayn, one of the an$& said, 'By doing this, he was not seeking
to serve God!' I then went to the Messenger of God (SAAS) and informed hi
of this. His face darkened and he exclaimed, 'May God have mercy on Moses!
He was made to suffer even more than this but remained patient!"'
Muslim related this from a hudirh of al-A'mash.
Al-Bukhzri also stated that Qutayba h. Sacid related to hi, quoting Jarir, from
Mansiir, from Abii Wa'il, who quoted 'Abd All& as saying, "At Hunayn the
Messenger of God (SAAS) gave preferable treatment to some persons. He gave
100 camels to each of al-Aqrac b. Hzhis and Wyayna and also made distributions
to others. One man said, 'By this division, service to God was not intended!' I
said, 'Well, I'm going to report this to the Messenger of God.'
"He (the Messenger of God (SAAS)) exclaimed, 'May God have mercy on
Moses; he was made to suffer even more than this but remained patient!"'
He also related it thus from a hadith of Mansnr, from al-Mu'tamir.
In one account given by al-Bukhzri, the wording is, "By God, this is a
distribution that is devoid of justice; service to God was not intended." So I said,
"I will inform the Messenger of God (SAAS) of this!" When I went to hi and
told him, he exclaimed, "And who will ever be just, if it not be God and His
messenger! May God have mercy on Moses; he was made to suffer even more
than this but remained patient!"
Muhammad b. Is&q stated that it was related to hi by Aba (Ubayda b.
Muhammad b. 'Ammw b. Yasir, from Miqsam Abn alQsim, the freed-man of
'Abd All& h. al-Harith b. Nawfal, who said, "I and Talid b. Kilxb al-Laythi
came to 'Abd All& b. CAmr b. al-As while he was circumambulating the ka'ba,
his sandals hanging from his hand. We asked him, 'Were you present with the
Messenger of God (SAAS) when the man from Banii Tamim spoke to hi
at the battle of Hunayn?' 'Yes,' he replied. LA man of Banii Tamim named Dhii
al-Khuwaysira came and stood nearby while the Messenger of God (SAAS)
was distributing the spoils. Dhii al-Khuwaysira told hi, "Muhammad, I have
been watching what you have been doing today." "Yes", asked the Messenger
of God (SAAS), "and what have you thought?" "I do not think you have been
acting justly." The Prophet (SAAS) was very angry and said, "Confound you!
If justice is not to be found with me, then with whom is it!"'
