al-Hndaybiyya, since he was blocked from it and did not actually accomplish it.
But God knows best.
I observe that Nafi' and his master Ibn Wmar denied that the Messenger of
God (SAAS) fully accomplished the 'umra from d-JicrZna. This is according to
the account given by d-Bukhzri. He stated that it was related to him by Aba
d-NuCmm, quoting Hammad b. Zayd, from Ayyiib, from Nafi: from Ibn Wmar,
who quoted Wmar b. al-Khatpb as having asked, LLMessenger of God, (what
should I do about) the vow I made before the coming of Islam to spend a day
in rCtzkaL prayer in seclusion?" He ordered him to fulfil the vow.
(The narrator went on) "Wmar received two slave girls from the captives taken
at Hunayn and he accommodated them in a house in Mecca. Then the Messenger
of God (SAAS) released the Hunayn captives and they began to run in the
streets. Wmar asked (his son), "Abd Alhh, what's this you see happening?' He
replied, 'The Messenger of God (SAAS) has released the captives.' Wmar then
said, 'Go and send the two slave-girls away."'
Nafic went on, "The Messenger of God (SAAS) did not make the 'umra from
al-Jicrana. Had he done so, this fact would not have been unknown to 'Abd All&
(b. Wmar)."
Muslim related this from a hadith of Ayyiib al-Sukhtiyitni, from N2fic, from
('Abd Allah) Ibn Wmar.
Muslim also related it from Alpnad b. 'Abda al-Dabbi, from Hammad b.
Zayd, from Ayyiib, from Nafic, who said, "Reference was made in the presence
of ('Abd Allah) Ibn Wmar to the 'umra made by the Messenger of God (SAAS)
from al-Ji'fina. Ibn Wmar commented, 'He did not make an 'umra from there."'
This is very gharib, strange, to be reported of Ihn Wmar by his freed-man
Naiic, both of them thereby denying his having made an 'umra from there. The
transmitters of ahdith other than them do maintain that he did so, as is shown
by reports given from them in the mass of authoritative collections of ahadith of
all kinds, includimg the military chronicles.
This is also established in both jahih collections in a hadith of 'A@) b. Abii
Rabah from Wrwa, from '.&'isha, who contradicted Ibn Wmar's statement that
"The Messenger of God (SAAS) performed the 'umra in Rajab." She stated,
"May God forgive 'Abd al-Ralpnan's father! ('Abd Allah b. Wmar, that is.) The
Messenger of God (SAAS) never performed the 'umra other than in his presence,
and he never did so in Rajab."
Imb mad stated that Ibn Numayr related to him, quoting al-A'mash,
from Mnjaid, who said, "Wrwa b. al-Znbayr asked Ibn Wmar in what month
the Messenger of God (SAAS) performed the 'umra. He replied, 'In Rajab.'
'.&'isha was listening to us. Ibn al-Zubayr referred to what Ibn Wmar had
said and asked her to comment. She replied, 'May God have mercy on Abii
'Abd al-Rab~n! The Messenger of God (SAAS) never made an 'umra that Ibn
Wmar did not witness, and he never made any 'umra that was not in Dbn
al-Qa'da."'
