Patna Dharmapada - 195
[399 ≈ Ud-v 32.62, Bhikṣuvargaḥ]
Yo uppatitaṁ vineti rāgaṁ,
That one who removes the passion that has arisen,
visaṭaṁ sappaviṣam va oṣadhīhi,
as he would (remove) pervasive snake venom with medicines,
so bhikkhu jahāti orapāraṁ,
that monk abandons the near and far shore,
urago jinnam iva ttacāṁ purāṇiṁ.
like a snake (who has abandoned) its old, worn-out skin.
Yas tūtpatitaṁ nihanti rāgaṁ,
That one who destroys the passion that has arisen,
as he would (remove) pervasive snake venom with medicines,
sa tu bhikṣur idaṁ jahāty apāraṁ, 119
that monk abandons this and the far shore,
hy urago jīrṇam iva tvacaṁ purāṇam.
like a snake (who has abandoned) its old, worn-out skin.
