The rubric below will assist assessment of a pupil’s fluency progress.

pupil reads expressively throughout all or
most of the passage.
The pupil generally reads with appropriate
phrasing. Some mistakes are made with word
pronunciation. The pupil attempts to read with
expression.
The pupil reads in two- to four-word phrases.
Some word pronunciation mistakes are
made. The pupil does not read with
expression.
Viewing sample
The pupil reads word-by-word, makes
frequent mistakes in pronunciation, and does
not use expression.
