—— 燈 具 設 計 師 Maurice Dery 和 他 的 新 系 列
從 文 藝 復 興 巨 匠 達 芬 奇 身 上 汲 取 靈 感 , 結 合 四 十 年
工 匠 生 涯 的 專 業 積 累 ,Maurice Dery 完 成 了 自 己 至 今
為 止 最 傑 出 的 一 件 作 品 。 文 / 瑞 晨
工 匠 Maurice Dery 的 眼 中 , 打 造 一 件 作 品 如 同 「 攀
在 登 珠 穆 朗 瑪 峰 」, 他 目 前 是 溫 哥 華 著 名 燈 具 工 作
室 Karice 的 首 席 設 計 師 和 聯 合 創 辦 人 。 他 們 的 作 品 曾 屢 次
獲 得 過 業 內 頗 具 影 響 力 的 大 獎 。 近 期 ,Maurice 從 文 藝 復 興
時 期 的 藝 術 巨 匠 達 芬 奇 那 裏 得 到 了 一 些 不 同 尋 常 的 靈 感 ,
並 發 揮 自 己 工 藝 水 平 的 極 致 , 將 這 份 靈 感 變 成 了 現 實 。
「 藝 術 和 設 計 領 域 中 的 人 需 要 不 斷 挑 戰 自 我 , 去 設
計 、 打 造 和 完 成 更 好 的 作 品 。」Maurice 形 容 這 個 過 程 就
像 登 山 者 不 停 揮 動 手 中 的 冰 鎬 , 拴 緊 身 上 的 繩 索 , 向 著
最 頂 峰 進 發 一 樣 , 任 何 細 微 的 差 池 都 可 能 導 致 作 品 前 功 盡
棄 。 例 如 : 打 造 一 些 配 件 時 工 匠 需 要 操 作 機 械 設 備 , 像 是
高 壓 水 槍 或 是 砂 輪 , 力 量 很 大 , 速 度 也 很 快 , 同 樣 需 要 體
力 和 精 神 的 高 度 集 中 和 多 年 的 經 驗 累 積 。
對 於 許 多 頂 級 的 工 匠 來 說 , 他 們 一 生 都 會 像 藝 術 家 一
樣 , 孜 孜 不 倦 地 追 尋 著 技 藝 上 的 提 升 , 完 全 沒 有 任 何 捷 徑 。
就 在 去 年 ,Maurice 接 受 了 自 己 職 業 生 涯 中 最 大 的 一 次 挑
戰 , 他 受 邀 為 《 品 位 》 雜 誌 主 辦 的 「 夢 想 家 園 」 展 會 訂 製 一
件 不 同 凡 響 的 燈 具 設 備 , 這 就 是 達 芬 奇 系 列 的 由 來 。
這 個 系 列 包 括 Leonardo1482 吊 燈 、Vitruvian 檯
燈 、Infinity 1519 檯 燈 和 吊 燈 , 共 四 件 作 品 , 以 此 向 偉 大 的
藝 術 家 達 芬 奇 表 達 敬 意 。 達 芬 奇 的 創 作 生 涯 始 於 1482 年 ,
於 1519 年 離 世 ,Vitruvian 也 就 是 那 副 著 名 的 素 描 《 維 特 魯
威 人 》, 是 達 芬 奇 廣 為 人 知 的 作 品 之 一 。 我 們 有 理 由 相 信 ,
也 許 若 干 年 後 , 這 套 燈 具 會 成 為 Maurice 如 《 蒙 娜 麗 莎 的
微 笑 》 一 樣 的 代 表 作 。 為 了 打 造 這 套 燈 具 ,Maurice 幾 乎 使

his work can be “like climbing Everest.” He’s the lead
designer and co-founder of Karice, a custom lighting
and metal manufacturer outside Vancouver, and he’s
recently pushed himself to the limit of his abilities with
the Da Vinci Collection, inspired by the ingenuity and
mastery of Leonardo da Vinci.
“Somebody in art or in design is constantly challenging
themselves to build better, to finish better, to design
better,” Dery says. A mountaineer wields an ice axe
and rope; a metalworker maneuvers high-powered
machines, such as a high-pressure water jet that moves
faster than the speed of sound to cut steel. The tools and
environment are different, but the heart and drive are
the same.
Dery says that for high-end craftsmen, the ones who
have spent their lives honing their craft, there’s no way
to make it cheaper or cut corners — just like there’s no
shortcut up a mountain.
Last year, Dery started on the most epic endeavour
of his career after being asked to craft for Taste of Life’s
Luxury Home & Design Show a custom lighting fixture
unlike anything on the market. His creative gears
turned, and at the show’s opening in Vancouver last
June, he introduced the four-piece Da Vinci Collection.
