This year, international relations between Sweden
and Austria are deepened, as it will be the first time
that Sweden will serve as Chair of the Board of
Governors at the Vienna-based IAEA (International
Atomic Energy Agency), carried out by Sweden’s
Permanent Representative to the IAEA, Ambassador
Mikaela Kumlin Granit. Already created in 1956, the
organisation is tasked with promoting the peaceful
and secure use of nuclear energy while ensuring that
nuclear material is not misused for military purposes.
The post of Director-General of the IAEA was by
the way held for 36 consecutive years by two Swedes,
Sigvard Eklund and Hans Blix.
Summer is especially appreciated in Sweden. The
beautiful capital Stockholm, situated on 14 islands,
has put an emphasis on architecture and design as
tourist attraction and is definitely always worth a visit.
Yet, one should give Sweden’s other regions and
cities also a try – Sweden’s “Copacabana” in Malmö,
for instance. The sandy beach of “Ribban” stretches
for about 2.5 kilometres and is surrounded by green
areas. Or what about staying at one of the nearly
600,000 summer houses in Sweden?
Sweden has also developed being a foodie heaven.
One of the most remarkable chefs is Magnus Nilsson
from the restaurant Fäviken Magasinet, located in
Jämtland, 750 km north of Stockholm. The restaurant
is part of the 19 th century Fäviken Egendom
estate, which consists of 20,000 acres of farmland.
Nilsson, famous for using local products as well as
moss and weaves, has also written what some consider
to be the bible of Nordic cuisine, called the “Nordic
Cookbook”. It has taken him around all of Scandinavia,
meeting people and researching old recipes.
Only lately, Nilsson announced that he will be closing
his extremely successful restaurant in December
2019. “I’ve always known that it was not going to be
forever. To run a place like Fäviken, you need to feel
each morning is excitement. One morning, I just
woke up and for the first time I did not feel excited to
go to work,” he said in an interview with the Los Angeles
Times. His new goal for the upcoming months
