Major project
Airport as relaxation oasis
Book tip
Geopolitical power
struggles
Wars and conflicts dominate
our image of the Near and
Middle East. The situation
seems to be getting worse and
worse, not least because the
region is also a centre for
geopolitical power struggles.
Daniel Gerlach, journalist and
orientalist, has reinterpreted
the situation and is convinced
that the Arabic world is not yet
lost, but is, in fact, facing a
historic opportunity.
from all over the world who will encounter some of the most ground-breaking architectural designs in the world –
from the world’s biggest 360-degree projection surface on the steel dome of the Al Wasl Plaza to the pavilion
centred around the theme “chances”, made completely from natural materials, such as 2,500 tons of stone and 111
Last March, Changi Airport in Singapore
was named the best airport in the world
for the seventh time by Skytrax after just
having undergone significant renewals.
The biggest attraction in the new “Jewel”
part of the airport will undoubtedly be the
world’s biggest indoor waterfall that
comes crashing down in freefall within an
oval building made from glass and steel –
partly fed by rainwater, which is also used
for watering the surrounding greenery.
Israeli architect Mosche Safdie was
contracted to give the airport a new face
and realised the project in the form of an
exciting blend between nature and
state-of-the-art architecture, including a
hotel and an IMAX cinema. Five of the ten
floors are located above ground, while the
other five are below ground.
Global payment morale
Global payment behaviour has taken a slight upturn in the past year. This is
the conclusion of a new study by the credit insurance company Acredia,
executed jointly with the world market leader Euler Hermes. The so-called
“days of sales outstanding” (DSO) value – which is the time between the
issuing of the invoice and the actual payment – was 65 days in 2018, which is
one day less than in the previous year. Behind China (92 days), Greece (90),
Italy (86), Morocco (84), Turkey (79) and Spain (78) were among the slowest
payers.
