blireana (= P. cerasifera ´Pleniflora´)(cerasifera ´Pissardii´ x mume ´Alphanii´) - Blireana Plum
____ A broad and upright growing shrub up to 4 m tall with upright
to overhanging branches. Leaves ovate, 6 cm long, leaf shoots
are copper to bronze coloured (appearing red against the light),
greening more or less in later stage. Flowers are single and sturdy,
semi-double, up to 3 cm in width, light pink, appearing mid
April before the foliage, staying on tree for about 2 to 3 weeks
under cool climate. An attractive, red-leaved flowering shrub,
originated in France in 1895, that unfortunately was not popular
in the past but recently traded as a newcomer under the false
name of P. cerasifera ´Pleniflora´. D, R, S. Zone 6a.
cerasifera ´Hollywood´ (=´Trailblazer´) -
____ Differs from the species in its sturdier growth, the bronze-red,
about 9 cm long leaves and the light pink flowers that appear in
April/May; fruits are large, 4 to 5 cm long, cherry red, and have
a pleasant taste - valuable as ornamental or as fruit tree. D, R,
