dark green - one of the best, darkgreen-coloured, small pines. B,

mugo (= montana) - Mountain Pine
____ A Mountain Pine of Central and Western European mountainous
regions; found in various shapes and sizes; normally forming a
dense, much-branching shrub or small tree, reaching up to 5 m
tall - an especially frugal and hardy pine, thriving exceptionally
well in different soils; a pine with various uses. D, H, R, St. Zone
4.
mugo ´Gnom´ -
____ A dwarf cultivar, reaching eventually man´s height, growing very
densely and rounded with its numerous shoots; needles are arranged
radially, densely crowded and deep green - a slow-growing
cultivar for low hedges, heather and rock gardens and for
planting in troughs or on graves. B, D, H, K, R, St, Z. Zone 4.
mugo ´Mops´ -
____ A rounded, dwarf cultivar, slow-growing, reaching 1.5 m tall only
when very old; branches are short with exceptionally densely
crowded buds - having a similar usage as ´Gnom´. D, H, K, R,
St, Z. Zone 4.
mugo mughus -
____ Found in the Eastern Alps to the Balkan region with shrub-like,
low-lying growing habit, knee-like bending branches, numerous
short shoots and twisted needles - a cultivar found in the wild
that also remains stocky in the flatlands and hardly over 2 m tall;
an ideal pine for hedges and for mass plantings. B, D, H, K, R,
St, Z. Zone 4.
