____ Deciduous, bushy shrub with 1,2 m to 2 m height; leaves with<br />

6 cm to 15 cm length, elliptic-lanceolate acuminated, with gleaming<br />

green surface and brighter bottom side, opposite or 3-4 in<br />

swirls; flowers in close, yellow-white, petiolate with up to 3 cm<br />

broad heads from July to September at this years wood - an outstanding<br />

shrub becuase of the sputnik like flowers, very hardy<br />

and insect magnet. K, S. Zone 5b.<br />

japonicum - Katsura Tree<br />

____ 10 to 15 m tall tree, often with multiple stems, regular and broad<br />

conical crown; leaves wide and round, in shoot break violetred,<br />

turning in autumn an intensive light yellow with a tendency<br />

towards red; minute, carmine flowers appearing before shoot<br />

break - a specially decorative tree for not too dry soils. S. Zone<br />

5a.<br />

____ A large shrub or multiple-stemmed tree growing 6 to 10 m tall.<br />

Leaves are broadly ovate to orbicular, with pointed tips and<br />

bases slightly cordate, upperside of leaves shiny and glabrous,<br />

underside greyish green and slightly hairy, turning yellow in autumn.<br />

Flowers pink to violet red, 1 to 2 cm long, appearing 4<br />

to 8 in clusters from April to May. The hardiest species of the<br />

genus, with a much more vigorous growth than C. siliquastrum<br />

and developing a lovely shape when older with slightly smaller<br />

flowers, and considered one of the more interesting flowering<br />

tree due to its cauliflory (flowers appearing on tree trunk). D, S,<br />
