____ A low, dense and bushy shrub with fragrant flowers borne in<br />

small, numerous panicles on terminal ends of shoots; flowering<br />

buds magenta, whitish-pink when blooming in June with a second<br />

flowering season in autumn; wrongly named and traded as<br />

S. patula, S. palibiniana or S. velutina in the last 5 years - a very<br />

lovely, promising flowering shrub, suitable for hedges, planting<br />

in troughs, roof gardens, rock gardens and for graveyard planting.<br />

____ A slow-growing, up to 1.5 m tall, well-branched shrub; leaves<br />

4 to 7 cm long panicles - a lovely dwarf lilac with a very long<br />

____ A rather weak growing (up to 1.8 m tall), widely bushy, denselybranched<br />

cultivar. Flowers light purple, borne on thin panicles up<br />

to 25 cm long, appearing in mid-June. One of the top cultivars<br />

due to its abundant flowers. Also outstanding as compared to<br />

other cultivars due to its much later flowering season. S. Zone<br />

____ Medium-sized growth, upright, to about 2 m tall and 1.5 m wide.<br />

Leaves oblong-oval, 10-15 x 5-8 cm, mid-green; young leaves<br />

never or hardly reddish. Flowers purple-red at first, turning light<br />

pink later, strongly fragrant, appearing mid May – early June. A<br />

cultivar by W.A. CUMMING, Canada, in 1967; a lovely cultivar<br />

with oriental fragrance that is also suitable for container planting.<br />
