____ A fast and erect-growing, up to 5 m tall shrub with very dense<br />
crown and dark bronze-red, glossy shoots; leaves rather large,<br />
deep dark red, colour of leaves remain till autumn; flowers pink,<br />
up to 2.5 cm across, appearing in April/May - a striking, large ,<br />
robust and free-flowering shrub. D, R, S, St. Zone 5a.<br />
cistena (cerasifera ´Atropurpurea´ x pumila) -<br />
____ A slow-growing, densely branched shrub, hardly over 2 m tall<br />
and wide; leaves 3 to 6 cm long, dark bronze-red, glossy above,<br />
leaves on young shoots are light red; flowers white, appearing<br />
in May; fruits dark crimson, edible - excellent for clipped or freegrowing<br />

____ A charming dwarf cherry with dense branching, broad and upright<br />
growth pattern, up to 1 m tall and 1.5 m wide. Fine shoots,<br />
twisted and bending in a zigzag manner. Leaves about 2 cm<br />
in length, long tips, yellow-green at first, turning mid-green with<br />
bluish green underside and bright orange-red in autumn. Flowers<br />
rosy red as buds, pink to pinkish white when blooming, pendant,<br />
appearing in March to April. A filigree-like, free-flowering<br />
small shrub – an impetus to purchase in spring due to its flowers,<br />
equally interesting without its foliage; suitable for plant containers,<br />
rock gardens, small planting areas and hedges, or as bonsais.<br />

kurilensis ´Brillant´ -<br />
____ A lovely, very slow-growing cultivar; flowers pink as buds, later<br />
white, somewhat larger than the species, flowering even as a<br />

planting containers etc. - was brought into the trade by<br />
