occidentalis ´Teddy´ - American arborvitae, Northern arborvitae, Northern white cedar
____ An extraordinarily dwarf cultivar, with almost horizontally growing,
foliage, dark green in summer with a bronze-coloured shine;
shoot tips turn a lovely bronze colour in winter, and light green
within the plant - a rounded plant that feels soft when brushed
or stroked (notice its name!), for small hedges, rock gardens,
cemeteries, or for planting in troughs. H, K, R, St, Z. Zone 6a.
occidentalis ´Weimar´ - American arborvitae, Northern arborvitae, Northern white cedar
____ Growing narrowly conical, with good branching and upright
shoots. A seedling selection from HORST PIERSKALLA of Bad
Berka, Thuringia. Cultivar also available in eastern Germany
under the name ´Columna´ as well as ´Columna Auslese´ and
was brought into western germany before 1980 by the nurdery
FISCHER from Mülheim-Kärlich. A robust thuja for hedges with
small seed production and a better winter tone. H, R, S, ST.

orientalis ´Aurea Nana´ - Chinese arborvitae
____ A dwarf version of T. orientalis, very slow-growing, hardly over
50 cm tall, with fine and delicate twigs and very small needles,
that appear golden yellow in early spring, and dark bronze in
winter - sufficiently hardy, lovely for rock gardens. R, St, Z. Zone
6b.
orientalis ´Pyramidalis Aurea´ - Chinese arborvitae
____ A tall-growing, very densely branched cultivar, that grows narrowly
cone-shaped when young, and having a broad base when
older; young shoots remain golden yellow for a long time, later
greenish-yellow and then copper-gold in winter - the loveliest
amongst the golden, columnar cultivars, hardy and effective as
a specimen. D, St. Zone 6b.
