Gran Canaria takes part in the first hybrid
gathering of the German tourist industry
The Gran Canaria Tourist Board has recently participated
in and sponsored the FVW Kongress, Germany’s most
prestigious tourism congress, held for the first time as
both a presence-based and online event.

This tourism forum organised by the specialist
newspaper FVW was attended by
2,600 participants over four days, with sessions
featuring lectures and presentations by
the destinations aimed at the publication’s
members and international travel agents.
On the second day of the congress, Turismo
de Gran Canaria organised a presentation
with the island’s promoter in Germany,
Fernando Arias, in which he highlighted the
importance of the German market for the
holiday destination and showed the biodiversity
of the landscape and the wide variety
of products available to enable visitors
to enjoy a whole host of experiences in Gran
Canaria.
The event also provided the opportunity to
present some of the latest attractions at the
holiday destination which are being promoted
at the Tourist Board, such as the chance
for remote workers to settle on the island.
The importance of promoting Gran Canaria
as an ideal destination to live and work from
a distance is now greater than ever given the
imposition of new ways of working due to
the coronavirus.
In addition, the presentation highlighted the
inclusion of the island in the list of locations
recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage
Site at the Cultural Landscape of Risco Caído
and the Sacred Area of Montañas de Gran
Canaria, plus the priviledge of having the
distinction of being a Starlight Destination
thanks to the quality of its night skies, also
awarded by this important international organisation.
On the other hand, an insight was given into
the initial management and activity by the
Tourist Board in the face of the health crisis
caused by the outbreak of the pandemic
and the starting up of the campaign entitled
#muchoporvivir (much to live for). The
purpose of this campaign is to maintain dialogue
through social media with the local
population during the period of lockdown
which subsequently spread to inbound markets,
such as Germany, with the hashtag
#vielzuerleben. The campaign has served
to strengthen the image of Gran Canaria by
establishing emotional ties with the island
which is waiting to welcome tourists back,
which was very well received in Germany.
The event’s agenda featured a debate by experts
concerning the impact of the health
crisis on the tourism industry and the main
consequences it faces. In this regard, it also
provided an opportunity to highlight the
hard work on the part of tourist agents in
Gran Canaria in constant partnership and
coordination with the Tourist Board to quickly
and efficiently implement all the safety
and hygiene protocols imposed by the authorities
to help slow down the spread of the
virus, offering visitors a safe and trustworthy
environment, so characteristic of the island.
El Patronato de Turismo de Gran
Canaria ha participado y patrocinado
recientemente el FVW
Kongress, el congreso de turismo
más prestigioso de Alemania,
que ha sido celebrado
por primera vez combinando el
modo presencial y online.
