Professional collaboration
Pakorn Yoodee / Wipada Yoodee X Dr. Nattapong Nithi-Uthai
Before the ‘Professional collaboration’ pavilion come
to be, Pakorn Yoodee and Wipada Yoodee of INLY
STUDIO, was assigned to design a space that would
express the perception, thought process and
philosophy behind the creative development of their
work. The two work to find a way to bring out the
personality and mindset of Dr. Nattapong Nithi-Uthai,
the founder of a social enterprise, Tlejourn SE, using
them to create a distinctive characteristic of the design.
The pavilion is designated to house a showcase of
concepts and collaborations of 24 groups of designers
and architects from across the country, which is
together as a part of Architect Expo 2022, featuring
models, conceptual photographs and videos.
From an intention to create a space that brings users
the kind of experience similar to that of being in the
middle of rolling waves, covered in recycled marine
debris created by Tlejourn SE. The concept is reconciled
into a simplistic yet dynamic form that can be seen
from a distance, serving as the landmark for the event
and attracting visitors into the exhibition ground. The
structure is built of wire meshes, allowing the delicate
shape and details of waves to be impeccably replicated
while offering the strength, stability and shorter
construction period. The design team takes a different
approach to recycled waste materials, using wire
meshes as the outer skin to create the sculpture-like
structure. Arranged to have 360-degree view, viewers
are able to see the piece from different perspectives,
based on each of their own personal experiences
and sentiments toward each part of the pavilion.
What’s also interesting about the idea behind the
pavilion is how the two architects and one creator
intend to showcase the recycled waste materials’
flexibility and diverse applicability, whether it be in the
form of a sheet designed and built to mimic the shape
of rippling waves in the sea, or parts created using the
3D printing technology, to the use of marine debris to
create something that fully reflects the material’s own
potential and values and makes them more than just
useless objects. Meanwhile, the work sends out a
message to viewers about the current marine crisis,
along with ideas and possibilities for developments
that can lessen the problem such as recycling, which
is what Nithi-Uthai and Tlejourn SE have always been
trying to do and promote.
