After having realized his own interest in architecture,
Dr. Narongwit Areemit began walking the path he chose for
himself, from being a student of the School of Architecture,
Art, and Design, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology
Ladkrabang (KMITL), to the pursuit of his master’s degree and
PhD in Engineering at The University of Tokyo, until the day
he started practicing as a professional architect. He’s moved
up from a junior to senior position, with his current role being
one of the Executive Director of Architects 49 Limited, a LEED
Accredited Professional expert and the founder of ‘.limited’
(dot limited), the first eco-friendly grocery store in Khon Kaen
and the northeastern region of Thailand, developed to
communicate with the general public about the significance
of natural resources. He is also an avid advocate of the zero
waste system, supporter of local farmers, agriculturists and
local communities to create people and environmentally
friendly produce while promoting environmental knowledge
to reach the widest group of people possible.
For Areemit, the most vital factor of architectural practice is
an understanding of how the architectural system is related
to humans’ ways of living and existences, and the issues and
problems that will contribute to the improvement of architectural
spaces. He believes that a good design can solve problems
and develop something for the better, and is one of the many
disciplines that, if developed rightly, can benefit a society in
several aspects and dimensions.
Despite his degree in architecture from Chiang Mai University,
his curiosity to get to know design in a smaller scale and the
thought that ideas for smaller things get turned into reality
more easily, Sarngsan Na Soontorn decided to pursue his
masters’ degree in industrial design at École Nationale
Supérieure de Création Industrielle (ENSCI – Les Ateliers) in
Paris, France. After graduated, he worked for a number of
globally renowned design studios from being an assistant of
Gabriele Pezzini, Hermès’ Former Design Director to working
with Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec and Constance Guisset
Studio before accepting the invitation to work as a visiting
lecturer at the Department of Industrial Design at ENSCI – Les
Ateliers.
Na Soontorn is still very much active the industrial design
discipline, working with several studios such as Prempracha’s
Collection, DEESAWAT, United Glass, Natural Unit, PHYA
Philosophy, BAMBUNIQUE while developing his own products
under the brand ‘MOK KAM POR’ with ‘balance’ being both
the trajectory and destination of his journey as a professional
designer. He designs products of all scales from small to big,
from everyday household objects, to stage, exhibitions,
houses, retail spaces including branding strategies and brand
consultation.
