structural provinces: the Valley and Ridge Province to the southeast and the Plateau Province to the northwest. Enlargements

of the two provinces are shown below the main map. Based on the general shape of the land surface, as indicated by

the maps, answer the following questions:

(a) In which of the two provinces is the landscape structurally controlled?

(b) Compare the pattern of stream valleys in the Plateau Province with that in the Valley and Ridge Province.

Approximately what is the dip of the beds beneath the Plateau Province?

(c) In the Valley and Ridge Province, are the folds plunging or nonplunging? What is

your evidence?
