5. Travel Plan Measures
This section reviews and updates the initiatives and measures included in n the 2007/08 Travel
Plan, introducing a revised Action Plan and taking the University forward to 2012/13 2012/13.
5.1 Summary of Travel Plan Implementation from
2007/08 to 2009 2009/10
Table 5.1 below presents resents an update of the 2007 2007/08 Travel Plan Action Plan table showing:
• Travel Plan measures set out in 2007 2007/08;
• Their characteristics;
• Their timescales; es; and
• A summary ummary of progre progress on implementation up to 2009/10 for each measure.
The implementation summary shows that the majority of actions included in the 2007 2007/08 Travel
Plan have been implemented.
Out of the list of 16 actions, 10 have been fully implemented (shown as ☺ in Table 5.1 below and
6 partially implemented (shown as � in Table 5.1 below).
Key achievements include include:
• Additional cycle parking at City Campus, with the opening of the new Cycle Hub at
CitySpace, new cycle storage facilities at Technology Park. New shower and changing
facilities at CitySpace ;
• Ongoing going improvements to pedestrian routes and spaces, which is being incorporated into the
re-development development of City Campus Campus;
• Successful implementation of an online parking management system, with car park usage
closely monitored and enforced;
• A good level of uptake take for car sharing, with the 6 car share spaces at City Campus fully
utilised;
• Improvements made to the University Campus Bus Service, with improved bus stop signage,
timetable information and increased service frequency at peak times; ;
• Continued public transport discounts through the £40 Metro Card and four new staff bus and
rail discounted tickets;
• Implementation of a salary sacrifice scheme for staff to purchase bikes;
• Establishment of a new Sustainable Travel Environmental Action Group (EAG);
• Promotion and profile raising through promotional travel days; and
• Completion of new staff / students travel surveys and updated parking counts (December
2009), publication of travel KPI’s and regular monitoring of car parking and initiatives take up.
