The University aimed to consult with staff and students to ensure that additional facilities were provided in convenient locations and there was als also o a requirement to publicise their availability. Progress to 2009/10 /10 and moving forward to 2012/13 Over the last two o years, the University has implemented additional shower and changing facilities at the City Campus. Where possible, the University will continue to provide additional shower and changing facilities in convenient locations. At present, City Campus is fully covered due to the brand new shower and changing facilities at CitySpace, which opened in October 2009. In addition to the new facilities lities at CitySpace, shower and changing facilities are also available in the Edinburgh and Darwin Buildings. At the St Peter’s Campus, shower and changing facilities are available at the David Goldman Informatics ormatics Centre (Ground Floor) and Media Centre (Level 2). It is expected that the upgrade of shower and changing facilities will continue across the campus as part of the ongoing campus re re-development. development. University of Sunderland Travel Plan Update 5.2.4 Measure 4 – Walking and Cycling Routes 2007/08 Expectation The University was expected to liaise with the local planning authority to ensure that new walking routes through the re-developed developed City Campus link linked with Sunderland wide routes. The City Campus Development Framework aimed to develop a pedestrian friendly campus, with a car car-free core, replicating the successful St Peter’s experience. Progress to 2009/10 /10 and moving forward to 2012/13 The University is in the process of improving pedestrian and cycle access across the campuses through the re-development development of the City Campus and through the St Peter’s Campus Masterplan. Opportunities arising from the new developments are being used to improve pedestrian and cycle access to the site as well as flows through the campuses. Due to the ongoing re-development development of the CCity ity Campus, it is difficult to assess the provision of walking and cycling routes in and around the City Campus as the urban landscape is constantly changing. However, the City Campus Development Framework plans for segregation of car parking king from pedestrians, new public realm spaces and the development of clearly defined pedestrian routes, , which should encourage walking and cycling in and around the City Campus Campus. Additionally, the City Campus is also close to National Cycle Route 1. At St Peter’s Campus, the Masterplan will deliver consolidated parking areas, create green spaces, clearly define service routes, create shared surface areas and clearly mark marked walking routes. The evolving campus ampus layout will link new cycle routes with existing pprovision, including the C2C and Two Rivers Cycleway. The University has also produced walking route maps for both the City and St Peter’s campuses which can be accessed via the University website 37 has also produced walking route maps for both the City and St Peter’s campuses .
