University of Sunderland Travel Plan Update
• Highway improvements; mprovements; and
• Better pedestrian and public transport links with St Peter’s Campus Campus.
As part of the City Campus Development Framework, the following key projects have already
been undertaken at the City Campus:
• Demolition of Wearmouth Hall, Edinburgh Lecture Theatre, Edinburgh workshops and the
Centre for Sports and Recreation Recreation;
• Completion of the Gateway Building;
• Fit out of the Murray Library;
• Internal re-modelling modelling of the Edinburgh Building;
• Reorganisation of Tec Technology Park to facilitate vacation of Hind Street Street; and
• Completion of CitySpace – the new University Sports and Social Centre (pictured).
In addition to projects already completed, the following emerging projects are identified in the
2009 Development Plan Update:
• New Faculty Building on St Michael’s Way;
• Remodelling of the Design Centre;
• Public realm improvements and arts project;
• Centralised compoun compound for waste management;
• Enhance Murray Library / Chester Road Facade;
• Development of the proposed Hind Street Hotel and Conference Centre Centre; and
• Priestman Building and Technology Park identified as long term development sites which
could be leased to local business or disposed through sale sale.
The implementation will be phased, with many projects scheduled for completion by the 2012/13
academic year. . The phased strategy is requi required red so projects can be delivered in sequence which
will allow the City Campus and the University as a whole to function as normal.
Figure 1.2 overleaf is an extract from the latest version of the City Campus Development
Framework and shows the expected layout of the City Campus on once re-development development work has
been completed.
