University of Sunderland Travel Plan Update 3.1.1.2 Business Travel University staff were asked how often they travel away from the campus on business. It can be seen in Figure 3.1 (below) that 75% of respondents travel on business either ‘less than once a month’ or not at all. It can be seen that public transport accounts for 48.4% of business journeys, with 2.2% of trips made by walking. Car trips account for 43.7% of business journeys. University of Sunderland Travel Plan Update 3.1.1.3 Travel between Campuses University staff were asked three questions relating to travel between University campus sites. These questions included: • How often staff travel between the University campuses; • What mode of transport staff use to travel between the University campuses; and • If staff travel by car between the University campuses, what would encourage them to use the bus to travel between the campuses Figure 3.2 illustrates the frequency of travel between campuses. Of 698 responses, only 3% of staff stated that they travelled between University campuses on a daily basis, with 10% stating they travel several times per week. 51% of respondents travel between the campuses less than once a month or never. Figure 3.22 – 2009 Frequency of Travel between Campuses – All Staff Table 3.6 illustrates the modes which staff use to travel between campuses. Approximately 48.2% of staff travel by car, with 21% using the campus bus and 22.1% walking.
