„Broken Threads” este manipularea unui film noir albanez,
din anii ’70, astfel încât să fie transformat, prin remontaj,
în propriul său trailer, având drept coloană sonoră piesa
„The Curse of Mill Haven” interpretată de Nick Cave şi Bad
Seeds de pe albumul Murder Ballads. Proiectul îşi propune
să abordeze fenomenul criminalităţii şi al revoluţiei,
începând cu cea mai veche conspiraţie iezuită, demonstrând
că revoluţia nu se rezumă de fapt decât la infamul
motto: „Munca mea începe acolo unde se termină a ta”.
Din acest motiv, filmul nu a fost digitalizat prin procedeele
obişnuite, ci, în schimb, el a fost realizat pe întreaga sa
durată cu o minicameră, pentru a respecta conceptul
proiectului. Proiectul „Broken Threads” corelează piesa
lui Cave cu filmul noir albanez omonim, gravitând în jurul
mai multor agenţi albanezi, foşti colaboratori nazişti
din timpul celui de-al Doilea Război Mondial, care operau
împotriva regimului socialist şi care reveniseră pe
neaşteptate în ţara lor pentru a sabota şi distruge câteva
obiective importante din planurile industriale secrete ale
ţării. Filmul pune accentul pe relaţia dintre memorie şi actualitate,
dintre duşmani vechi şi noi, toate reunite într-o
poveste de spionaj cu intrigi internaţionale şi în care, ca de
obicei, conspiraţia eşuează exemplar.

“Broken Threads” is the manipulation of a ‘70s Albanian
noir movie so as to transform it into its trailer, by
collating footage and using as a soundtrack Nick Cave
and the Bad Seeds’ “The Curse of Mill Haven”, from the
album Murder Ballads. This project aims at tackling
the phenomenon of crime and revolution starting from
the earliest Jesuit conspiracy, showing revolution is
nothing but the infamous motto: my work starts when
yours is done. For this reason the movie wasn’t digitalized
through usual processes, but was instead filmed
with a handicam for the whole of its duration, so as to
respect the project’s concept. “Broken Threads” elaborates
Cave’s track with Albanian noir movie “Broken
Threads”, revolving around a bunch of Albanian agents
– former Nazi collaborators during WWII – operating
against the socialist system, suddenly coming back to
their homeland to sabotage and destroy some important
objectives in the country’s secret industrial plans.
The movie stresses the relationship between memory
and actuality, old and new enemies, adding up in a noir
spy story showing international plots and conspiracy
finally failing, as usual, in the best of ways.
