Proiectul este o reprezentare experimentală a imaginii stereotipe
a României în contextul său european, un şir de imagini (conceput
sistematic, dar lipsit de o „intelectualizare conceptualistă”) care
reflectă, prin mijloace tradiţionale, o faţă a realităţii româneşti cu
scopul de a ridica întrebări. Întrebări actuale care vizează confuzia
majoră între imaginea ţării şi valoarea ei, clişee şi identităţi
false, prostituţia (în sensul ei cel mai larg) în mass media şi în
clasa politică. Am încercat să caut un fel de punct de intersecţie
între o „realitate vizibilă prin prisma mass-mediei” şi un demers
artistic ironic şi subiectiv. Puţin exagerat, aş spune că am folosit
această realitate neprofundă ca un readymade. Odată cu intrarea
României în Uniunea Europeană, fenomenul autopromovării şi
al autoidentificării a devenit mai accentuat în peisajul „mioritic”
românesc. Pe mine m-a interesat o identitate falsă care este
promovată şi hipermediatizată în mass-media românească, folosind
elementele şi figurile reprezentative şi specifice ale acestei
identităţi. Am încercat să reprezint prima mea impresie despre
România actuală pornind televizorul.

This project is an experiment meant to typify the stereotypical
image of Romania in the European context: a series of images
(systematically developed, but lacking any “conceptualist
intellectualization”) that reflects a side of the Romanian reality,
using traditional means, in order to raise current questions
regarding the major confusion between the country’s
image and its worth, the clichés and false identities, the way
prostitution (in the broadest sense) is covered by media and
approached by the political class. I tried to find a kind of an intersection
point between a “tangible reality seen through the
media’s eye” and an ironic and subjective artistic approach.
Exaggerating a little, I could say that I used this shallow reality
as a readymade. The phenomenon of self-assertion and
self-identification has become more acute in the native landscape
along with Romania’s EU accession. I was interested in
a false identity, promoted and hyper-advertised by Romanian
media, which uses specific facts and figures considered as
representative for that identity. I tried to represent my first
impression about Romania by turning on the television.
