Davie critica ciertas características de la poesía británica desde los
años sesenta. Desde su punto de vista (Tredelí 1992: 66) la herencia
neoclásica de los cincuenta no fue continuada. Coherentemente, critica la
ruptura de la tradición y la exaltación de la modernidad:

offering in its place something more subtly satisfying’ (UB, 124). Si el lector no
espera nada, “the whole enterprise of free or freed verse must falí to the
