The Poems of Doctor Zhivago son “faithful te a psycholegical reality”<br />

(SE, 140) que constituye “a landscape of the mmd’ (SE, 233). Hallamos <strong>en</strong><br />

ellos algunos ejemplos de “Freudian lmagery” (SE, 205) y de “cinematographic<br />

cuting from <strong>en</strong>e similitude to the next” (SE, 261). Los poemas de Pasternak<br />

respond<strong>en</strong>, pues a las características de la poética simbolista:<br />

autorrefer<strong>en</strong>cialidad, sugestividad y subjetivismo.<br />

Por otra parte, <strong>en</strong> el simbolismo de algunos poemas de Doctor Zh¡vago,<br />

está pres<strong>en</strong>te el cristianismo. En alguno de ellos, como “Christmas Star”,<br />

Pasternak une modernism e imaginería cristiana (SE, 216). En etros como<br />

“Gethsemane’ utiliza motivos evangélicos y <strong>en</strong> otros, como “Hamlet» o “The<br />

Miracle” llega hasta la elaboración metafísica. En “Hamlet”, por ejemp¡o, se<br />

relacionan las figuras del personaje shakespeariano con la de Cristo: “As fhe<br />

actor is te Shakespeare, so Hamlet was to his fathers ghost, so Christ was lo<br />

his Father, so we are te that same Father or to destiny’ (SE, 175). En “The<br />

Miracle’, a propósito del verso “A miracle Es a miracle, a miracle is God” (SE,<br />

224>, Davie com<strong>en</strong>ta que “believing along these lines Pasternak is echoing a<br />

R<strong>en</strong>aissance thinker like Philip Sidney, for whom poetry is the noblest human<br />

activity because it is that activity in which man, as ‘maker, mest nearly<br />

approaches the creativ<strong>en</strong>ess of God” (SE, 224). Del mismo modo, y <strong>en</strong> el<br />

mismo poema, “this ambiguity in the wonder-working of an earlier poem<br />

should have prepared us to see, in the solitary traveller here, a human poet no<br />

less than an incarnate God” (SE, 223>. Pasternak pues, aúna poéticam<strong>en</strong>te<br />
