Música jazz Todo aquel jazz Una placa doble que reúne a algunos de los mejores maestros del género: las grandes orquestas, el swing, el bebop, y los trompetistas y saxofonistas más experimentales. Una reinvención espiritual del transcurso de la vida, donde un segundo a veces dura más y a veces menos que un segundo. Una aventura del alma y el cuerpo y la mente donde el ser humano reivindica su humanidad invadiendo dimensiones inexploradas pero a la vez cercanas, próximas, a las que el jazz, esa invención constante e irreverente, humaniza con sus artificios para disimular la artificialidad, como un pase de magia imposible de desenmascarar. El swing, la síncopa, la improvisación forman parte de la creativa aventura de este género, donde los cánones y patrones no son otros que los del propio estilo de cada intérprete, la estética intuitiva, el sonido genuino y personal. Eso no quiere decir que no haya maestros y transmisión de conocimientos acerca de las mejores formas de abordarlo. Sólo que los maestros no son acartonados ni aburridos, sino creativos y sorprendentes en sus enseñanzas, que surgen de la improvisación y la inspiración más que de los manuales de estilo. Probablemente, una de las mejores maneras de acceder a las enseñanzas de los grandes profesores del jazz surja por estos días de la escucha de la placa doble Talent Jazz. Allí, con una portada que reproduce la estética de pop art de Andy Warhol en torno a la lata de sopa de tomates Campbell, podemos acceder a joyas del género como Cheek to cheek, por Ella Fitzgerald y Louis Armstrong, Chicago, por Tony Benett, o Here comes de night, por la orquesta de Harry James, en plan romántico. También hay piezas un poco más sexies, como Makin Whoopie, por el Gerry Mulligan Quartet, y canciones que merecen incluirse en el equipaje de mano para la isla desierta, como Our love is here to stay, por Larry Adler, Cry me a river, por Julie London, o Jumpin at the woodside, a cargo de la orquesta de Count Basie. No podían faltar elegantes diademas como Just a Gigolo, nada menos que por Thelonious Monk, y Someone to watch over me, por la imperecedera voz de Frank Sinatra. Y para convertir a este disco doble en una oferta que no se puede rehusar (sin alusiones a los buenos muchachos amigos de Frankie), están también Mack the knife (de Bertolt Brecht y Kurt Weill) por Louis Armstrong, A night in Tunisia, por el “perseguidor” Charlie Parker, junto con The way you look tonight, por Miles Davis, I’ll be seeing you, por Billie Holliday, o Stormy Weather, por Dinnah Washington. Para escuchar noche y día (Night and day, por Lena Horne, es otra de sus perlitas). Si buscamos “jazz” en el diccionario, muy probablemente surja esta placa como síntesis de resumen y significado 53
