A competência percebi<strong>da</strong> pelos alunos, as expectativas <strong>do</strong><br />
professor e o <strong>de</strong>sempenho académico: como se relacionam<br />
na disciplina <strong>de</strong> educação física?<br />

RESUMO<br />
A auto-percepção <strong>de</strong> competência influencia o interesse e a<br />
persistência <strong>do</strong> aluno na concretização <strong>da</strong> aprendizagem. O<br />
objectivo <strong>de</strong>ste estu<strong>do</strong> analisa a relação entre o <strong>de</strong>sempenho<br />
<strong>do</strong>s alunos, as expectativas <strong>do</strong>s professores e a competência<br />
percebi<strong>da</strong> pelos alunos. O estu<strong>do</strong> é <strong>de</strong>scritivo e a amostra é<br />
constituí<strong>da</strong> por 10 professores e 186 alunos <strong>da</strong> 6ª à 8ª série <strong>do</strong><br />
ensino fun<strong>da</strong>mental brasileiro. O <strong>de</strong>sempenho <strong>do</strong>s alunos foi<br />
medi<strong>do</strong> através <strong>de</strong> testes, e a percepção pessoal <strong>do</strong> aluno e as<br />
expectativas <strong>do</strong> professor foram obti<strong>da</strong>s através <strong>da</strong> técnica <strong>de</strong><br />
auto-relato. As estatísticas <strong>de</strong>scritiva e inferencial permitiram a<br />
análise <strong>da</strong> congruência entre as variáveis em estu<strong>do</strong>. A competência<br />
percebi<strong>da</strong> pelos alunos tem forte associação positiva,<br />
tanto com o seu <strong>de</strong>sempenho, como com as expectativas <strong>do</strong><br />
professor. Há uma expressiva correspondência entre as expectativas<br />
<strong>do</strong>s professores e o <strong>de</strong>sempenho <strong>do</strong>s alunos. Os resulta<strong>do</strong>s<br />
<strong>de</strong>monstram a necessi<strong>da</strong><strong>de</strong> <strong>de</strong> aprofun<strong>da</strong>r o estu<strong>do</strong> <strong>da</strong>s<br />
expectativas <strong>do</strong> professor e os seus efeitos sobre o comportamento<br />
<strong>de</strong> ensino e a representação <strong>de</strong> competência formula<strong>da</strong><br />
pelos alunos.<br />

Pupil’s self-perceived competence, teacher expectations, and aca<strong>de</strong>mic<br />
performance: How <strong>do</strong> they relate in Physical Education?<br />
Stu<strong>de</strong>nt’s perceived competence influences interest and persistence in<br />
learning accomplishment. The aim of this study was to analyze the<br />
relationships among stu<strong>de</strong>nt performance, teachers’ expectations and<br />
stu<strong>de</strong>nt’s perceived competence. Having a <strong>de</strong>scriptive approach, we sampled<br />
10 teachers and 186 6 nd to 8 nd gra<strong>de</strong> stu<strong>de</strong>nts of the Brazilian<br />
educational system. Stu<strong>de</strong>nt performance was measured through tests,<br />
and the stu<strong>de</strong>nt’s personal perception and teacher’s expectation were<br />
picked up through self-report measures. Descriptive and inferential statistics<br />
allowed the analysis of the congruence among the variables in<br />
study. Stu<strong>de</strong>nt’s personal perception has strong association with stu<strong>de</strong>nt<br />
performance and teacher’s expectations. The teachers’ expectations<br />
correspon<strong>de</strong>d meaningfully with the stu<strong>de</strong>nts’ performance. The results<br />
<strong>de</strong>monstrate the need to <strong>de</strong>epen the study of the effects of teachers’<br />
expectations on the teaching behaviour and stu<strong>de</strong>nts’ perceived competence.<br />
