By referring Wright, they also enumerate three additional compositional<br />

principles. These are:<br />

• First, to reduce the necessary parts of the house and the separate<br />

rooms to a minimum, and make all come together as enclosed<br />

space<br />

• Second, to associate the building as a whole with its side by<br />

extension and emphasis on planes parallel to the ground<br />

• Third, to eliminate the room as a box and the house as another<br />

Usonian houses are part of the Prairie style houses designed by Frank Lloyd<br />

Wright. Although Usonian style is compatible with the general principles of the<br />

Prairie style, William Allin Storrer points out that, main idea behind Usonian<br />

houses is to design and produce more economic houses for the rapidly growing<br />

American middle class family. (Storrer, 1993) Thus, Usonian houses are<br />

simplified versions of the Prairie houses. Main motivation behind the Usonian<br />

style is “to make Prairie houses more compact.” Transformation of the Prairie<br />

as analyzed by Storrer (Figure 3) can be summarized as:<br />
