Townsend add that for bonding, “it is necessary that the brick be placed in such
a manner that they are all tied together to form a cohesive block or mass”
(Dalzell & Townsend, 1954, 7.)
As it is seen from the definitions and the bonding schemes, building gifts of the
Froebel training shares parallel formal and compositional strategies with the
bricklaying tradition.
After thousands of years of constructional and spatial experiencing with brick,
it would not be mistake to say that not only it is one of the first building
materials; it is also one of the first logical tools of architecture. Although they
are limited, basic bricklaying procedures and logic can easily give us the basic
rules and the compositions of the froebelian building gifts. And Frank Lloyd
Wright is the first modern architect who uses and expands such features clearly
in and for his designs.
