peloidoterapi merkezleri ve dolayısıyla sağlık turizmi açısından vazgeçilmez kılabilir. Bu
derlemede peloidoterapinin kronik hastalıklarda kullanımı ve sağlık turizmi açısından önemi
tartışılacaktır.

Abstract
Use Of Peloidotherapy For Health Tourism And Chronic Diseases
In the recent years; health tourism –both for treatment and vacation purposes- has been
making serious contributions to the economy of countries over the world. Due to increasing
world population, increasing quality of life and increasing cost of health services in different
countries; people have been turning to countries that provide relatively more quality and cheaper
services. Turkiye has been attracting attention of many tourists thanks to its geographical
position, climate, being surrounded on three sides by the sea, natural richness and thermal waters
for health tourism, peloidotherapy sources as well as cheap and quality health services as
compared to many other countries.
Elevated prevalence and mortality rate of chronic diseases are high both over the world
and in our country. The present knowledge and experiences indicate that with appropriate
interventions to be done for society or individuals, significant amount of diseases and deaths can
be prevented. To plan and to implement interventions for societies; policies that are convenient
for the substructure of the country, feasible, preestablished and evidence-based are needed.
Aging world population and numerous symptoms caused by chronic diseases such as
muscle and joint pain, movement restrictions, fatigue, sleep disorders reduce people’s quality of
life. Since pharmacological agents used in treatments may be ineffective in controlling these
symptoms and have various side effects; people may use peloidotherapy in order to keep these
symptoms under control and to enhance their quality of life. Peloidotherapy involves organic and
inorganic agent mixtures of dissolved, mineralized, purified therapeutic mud or peat formed in
water for ages thanks to climatologic events and used in packages or baths the body as a thermal
therapy.
Peloidotherapy –used since antique times as a part of hot thermal treatments- has again
become popular in the 21 st century both over the world and in our country and started to be used
again because of its therapeutic effects in many areas. Abundant amount of hot springs and
