”When is Social Software/Web 2.0 social? Is it social to use collaboration tools, write a
blog, post photos to Flickr etc.?
I'm writing about social software/web 2.0 and related to that I'm currently reflecting on
what makes social software social. My argument is that a lot of the things that's called
social software aren’t really social in its nature. Why is it for example considered social
to use tagging?
My theoretical background is Wenger's writings about communities of practice.”
Svar 2:
Hi Marie,
Your reflections are very sound, and I have thought about the same thing
myself.
I don't regard tagging as a social thing. The use of tags can be social, but it’s not
social automatically.
Social is a very nice buzzword, which is put as prefix to almost anything these
days, but then for the term social to actually mean something, it must carry
some form of link (communication, interaction, exchange etc.) between people.
And yes tags and software can do just this, but not without human intervention.
Hope that my raving was helpful
Svar 3:
Tagging, in my view, is a tool that is not inherently social, but whose value
greatly expands, when used in social ways. I am thinking specifically of
folksonomies and tag clouds.
Social bookmarking (Delicious, reddit, digg) relies upon tagging, and I believe
