Zu Beginn des Anlasses wurde dem bekannten
Schalenbauer Dr. h. c. Heinz Isler die Freyssinet-
Medaille überreicht. Diese höchste Auszeichnung
der Fédération Internationale du Béton (fib) hätte
Isler am 2. fib-Kongress vom Juni 2006 in Neapel
überreicht werden sollen, er war aber damals verhindert.

The fib-International PhD Symposium in Civil
Engineering was established in 1996 in Budapest
and from then on organised biennially in Budapest,
Vienna, Munich and Delft. Our institute was entrusted
to organise the 6th symposium at the ETH
Zurich.
During two and a half days 69 papers were presented
in two parallel sessions covering the areas of:
- Structural analysis and design
- Building materials
- Concrete and masonry structures
- Steel, timber and composite structures
- Geotechnical engineering.
Both the scientific content and the presentation of
the papers reached a high level. The proceedings [1]
contain the short versions of all 75 accepted papers
in print and the full versions on a CD-ROM.
The Scientific Committee judged all contributions
and identified three to be awarded in the closing
session. Gabriele Bertagnoli, Politecnico di Torino
won the 1st prize (CHF 4'000.--) with his paper
„Nonlinear Finite Element for Reinforced Concrete
Structures in Plane Stress“. Two 2nd prizes (CHF
3'000.-- each) went to Lars Dick-Nielsen, Technical
Welcome Reception.
