Soon he arrived at the sorcerer’s place. He stepped boldly inside
and walked up to the sorcerer, who looked at him scornfully, then
he asked him what he wanted. The cat bowed deeply and said,
’I have heard that you can transform yourself any way that you
please. I can well believe that you could transform yourself into
an animal such as a dog, a fox, or even a wolf, but it seems to me
that to transform yourself into an elephant would be quite impossible.
I have come to see if you can do so.’ The sorcerer said proudly,
‘That’s nothing for me,’ and he instantly transformed himself into
an elephant.‘That’s a lot,’ said the cat, ‘but also into a lion?’
„Das ist auch nichts“, sagte der Zauberer und stand als ein Löwe vor dem
Kater. Der Kater stellte sich erschrocken und rief: „Das ist unglaublich
und unerhört, dergleichen hätt’ ich mir nicht im Traume in die Gedanken
kommen lassen; aber noch mehr, als alles andere, wär es, wenn du dich
auch in ein so kleines Tier wie eine Maus verwandeln könntest. Du kannst
gewiss mehr als irgendein Zauberer auf der Welt, aber das wird dir doch
zu viel sein.“ Der Zauberer ward ganz freundlich von den süßen Worten
und sagte: „O ja, liebes Kätzchen, das kann ich auch“, und sprang als eine
Maus im Zimmer herum. Der Kater war hinter ihm her, fing die Maus mit
einem Satz und fraß sie auf.
‘That’s nothing either’, said the sorcerer and stood as a lion before
the cat. The cat stood there in shock and shouted: ‘This is unbelievable
and unheard of, I would not have let such things come to my
mind in my dreams; but even more difficult would be to transform
yourself into a small animal, such as a mouse. You are certainly
more powerful than any other sorcerer in the world, but that
would be too much for you.’ The sweet talk turned the sorcerer
very friendly, and he said, ‘Oh yes, my dear little cat, I can do that
too,’ then suddenly he was jumping around in the room as a mouse.
The cat ran after him, caught him with one leap, and ate him up.

Der König aber war mit dem Grafen und der Prinzessin weiter gefahren
und kam zu der großen Wiese. „Wem gehört das Heu?“, fragte der König.
„Dem Herrn Grafen!“, riefen alle, wie der Kater ihnen befohlen hatte.
„Ihr habt da ein schön Stück Land, Herr Graf “, sagte er. Danach kamen sie
an das große Kornfeld. „Wem gehört das Korn, ihr Leute?“
