agenda this week is our annual
banquet enjoyed by all those
Attending at the Mediterranean
Room of the Bay Diner. We
fatjoyed the comradery during
(he cocktail hour and then after
being seated were impressed
Jvith the invocation by our
fhaplain, Harold Hartman. Our
retiring president then greeted
hll and introduced Mayor
Chester J. Wimberg. who gave
& short talk including some
Jokes. The dinner was good as
were our accommodations and
we are indebted to Marie Ar-
buckle, chairwoman of our
banquet committee and all who
(nntributed to its success. We
are also indebted to Tom
Jackson for the table
decorations.
t As you read this article, the
last tournament of the year (the
jMew Jersey State Craig Leers
Champion of Champions) will
have been completed. We at
£his time can only report the
semi-finals. In the main event,
\t was Omar Caton (Teaneck),
Stom Flud (Ocean City). John
Frack (Ocean City) and Tom
Vlackson (Ocean City) playing
$n the finals. In consolation, it
was Harold Bodine, Elva
Haywood, Bill Savell, and Ed
Seitz, all of Ocean City. It is
certainly obvious where all the
shufflin' power is concentrated
in our state of New Jersey.
The Wednesday winners in
the Progressives were Mae
Murphy, five games; Elva
Haywood, , four games, and
Ruth Massey, three games. In
the men's division, it was
Leonard Smith, five games;
John Schmidt, four games, and
Leo McCullough, three games.
There are two Progressives left
on our agenda — on Saturday
and Labor Day, both at 1:30
p.m.
These fun tournaments will
bring our schedule to a close.
Our season was very successful
in that we had more par-
ticipants, many of whom were
showing real promise.
All of our tournaments called
for chairman and helpers to
prepare the courts and many
other facets to make for
pleasant competition. To print
names would make for a real
large list, so to speak for all
who enjoyed these com-
petitions, we say to all who
helped, "a great big thank
you!"

Stork fishing report

The records tumble as the
fish get bigger. It all started a
couple of weeks ago when
Barry Lang of Vineland
weighed in his 238-pound tuna.
Then Dave Redner of
Philadelphia promptly brought
in a 240-pound big eye and now
the current champion is
Patrick Wall of Vineland whose
fish tipped the scale at 244>£
pounds.
Bob Mutschler, fishing with
Bob Lummis and son Robert,
John Wall and his son, Patrick,
had gone to the Wilmington
'Canyon for an overnight
swordfish trip which they were
very successful at as they
caught two swordfish, one 79-
pounds and one 89-pounds. and
a mako shark during the night.
They started trolling at
daylight and hooked their first
big eye tuna that weighted 219
pounds and required 3MJ hours
to land when the second giant
showed up in the baits. And just
having finished a 3MJ hour
battle with a tuna fish, all hands
were frantically trying to get
the baits out of the water when
the world's record Atlantic big
eye tuna grabbed the ballyhoo
that Patrick was reeling in
trying to avoid and then the
fight was on for another three
hours and 40 minutes for one
pooped Patrick Wall.
Ironically, Dave Redner was
here at Capt. Andy's filling out
his forms when the "Shear-
water" showed up to weigh in
their big eye.

Mainland Regional High
School will reopen for the fall
term on Wednesday, Sep-
tember 6 with an anticipated
enrollment of 1,645 pupils far
grades 9 through 12. Ap-
proximately 100 pupils are
scheduled to attend the At]ant ic
County Vocational • Technical
High School on a "semester
about" basis.
Seniors, juniors and
sophomores with morning
schedules will attend school
between the hours of 7:35 ajn.
and 12:09 p.m.
Sophomores and entering
freshmen will attend school
between the hours of 12:20 p.m.
and 4:54 p.m.
Vocational - Technical pupils
should report to Mainland
Regional High School on
Wednesday, September 6.
Homeroom assignments are
posted throughout the school.

Longport Bridge. Bernard
Steinberg weighed a 7-pound 4-
ounce fluke caught at the
Margate Bridge all on minnows
with the top rental boat this
week taking 25 drifting in the
deeper water between the two
bridges.
Big bluefish remain off shore
and deep. The successful
anglers are using downriggers
and umbrella rigs fishing the
stone beds and Avalon Shoals.
John Eisele and his group from
Consolidated Freightways of
Philadelphia, caught 21
bluefish and one bonita with
Capt. Tim Hyde of the "Fish *N
Fun." Joe Yermish and his
group from Fenway Machine
Go. had an employee outing on
the "Fish "N Fun" and boated
15 bluefish in the 10-pound
class.
A sure sign that fantastic
September fishing is about to
begin is the first weigh-in of a
striped bass from the surf. Bill
Quick of Vineland beached his
31-pound striper off Sunset Av.
in Ventnor using squid and
Herb Pizagno Jr. and Tony
Rizzo brought in eight weakflah
jigging in front of Ocean City in
30 feet of water.

in action this Sunday, at 7 pm.
at the. one-half-mile paved
Atlantic City Speedway in
Pleasantville.
Race organizer Ken Butler
will be presenting what could
very- well be the final regular
season event at New Jersey's
only half-mile paved track
when he offers the fans a
chance to see the top names in
the Casino Classic 50-lap
championship for sportsman
stock cars.
Tony Siscone of Hammonton
who has won virtually
everything run at Atlantic City
Speedway this season, is a
favorite to walk off with the 50-
lap feature victory and the $450
first prize that goes with the
win.
Competition for two-time
Atlantic City Speedway
champion Tony Siscone will
come from the likes of Jerry
Camp, a former champion from
Marmora, Carl Grinar,
Vineland, Barney Truex, John
Megill, Sal Moftchella Sr., and
many others.
A full series of qualifying
events will be presented along
with a rail show of late model
stock car racing topped off by a
20-lap feature race.
Current late model point
leader Joe Edwards is a strong
favorite to walk off with this
victory.
In addition, Butler has an-
nounced plans for a Harvest
Classic sportsman cham-
pionship race at Atlantic City
Speedway. Tentative plans call
tor the event to be run on
Sunday, October 8. However,
further plans will be announced
shortly.
Atlantic City Speedway is
located on West Washington
Av. in Pleasnatville, N.J., just
minutes from all main shore
routes.
