Thought for the week

Holy Trinity Episcopal Church
A couple of weeks back,
Nancy took some pictures of
me, as one of my correspondents
had wanted one. When I
picked up theprintsat the photo
shop I brought them home and
laid the envelope on the kitchen
table for Nancy with this note:
Photo-genic
I am not
But 20 pictures of me
You got.
Reflecting on the incident, I
am convinced that looking at
one's own photograph can be a
learning experience. What we
all tend to see is the grey hairs
and the lines, the particular
characteristics of the smiling
or serious face which the
camera has dutifully recorded.
The instrument has no feelings,
and it will faithfully record
whatever is in front of it. It is a
totally impartial record of
whatever we have shown to it.
Looking at my own
photographs I saw some things
about the face which I turn to
the world. Some of these are
things which I missed simply
looking at myself in the shaving
mirror.
It L» said that Henry Ford
once refused to hire a man
because of his face. When
associates protested, Mr. Ford
replied that every man over 40
is responsible for bis face! And
in our Episcopal Church
hymnal, there is a verse which
further reflects upon this
matter in a very serious way:
I shall then show forth
thy praise,
Serve thee all my happy
days;
Then the world shall
always see
Christ the holy Child in
me.
It is a hymn for children, but
does it not apply to us all?
When someone looks at your
own lace, what — or whom —
does he see?
