Crafts show set for September
The Sixth Annual Craft s Show
and Sale sponsored by the
Cultural Arts Center of Ocean
City will be held on September
15 and 16 at the Ocean City
Music Pier.
One of the craftsmen
returning to this year's show
will be Dirk Muits Jr. of Ventnor.
Mr. Muits was one of last
year's show stoppers, with his
display of hand-crafted
children's furniture. The style
of the furniture ranges widely
and is finished in the same hiph
quality workmanship seen in
show rooms of the finest fur*
niture. His upholstering and
caning is so professional any
piece could be a part of the
decor in any room of the house.
Mr. Muits does the craft show
circuit with his son, Dirk Muits
III. Young Muits makes small
wood crafts and both will be
demonstrating their skill.
In another area of the show,
Earl L. Albright of Williamstown
will exhibit his handcrafted
Victorian furniture It
just so happens that Mr.
Albright is the grandfather of
young Dirk, making three
generations in this combination.
Mr. Albright has his own shop
in Williamstown called Earl's
Pine Shop where he does all
types of repairs and
reproductions of antique furniture.
The two younger
generations work out of their
home. To them their skill is a
hobby. Woodworking started as
a hobby with Albright, as well.
OCEAN CITY (N.J.) SENTINEL-LEDGER
However, since his retirement
in 1978, it has turned into a fulltime
endeavor.
These and many other
craftsmen wul appear in Crafts
the unique talents of all participating
craftsmen. Many will
be demonstrating their skill.
. Recent publicity on the
possibility of having a music
workshop at the Cultural Arts
Center of Ocean City was so
well received, Debbie Reeder,
cellist with the Philadelphia
Orchestra and member of the
Philadelphia Trio, is available
.as a teacher for a master class
in cello and as a coach in instrumental
ensembles of any
combination of instruments.
The date is set for September
14, 15 an'd 16. The precise time
will be determined when the
exact number of participants
will be known.
For a long time many
residents of Ocean City have
felt the lack of cultural affairs
during the winter months. After
a recent concert in Ocean City
by the Concerto Soloists of
Philadelphia, many people
expressed to Esther Weil,
music chairman of the arts
center, the hope that more
outstanding musical events
could be heard here.
On August 22, Mrs. Weil met
with some interested people
and presented ideas which
would enrich the musical life of
Ocean City, namely a mini
concert series to be held at the
center and the forming of a
"Friends of Music" group. The
ideas were received with enthusiasm
with much discussion
