Easter kicks off spring season
A shrill whistle! A cloud of
dust! And the thundering
footbeats .of over 1,000
youngsters seeking Easter
prizes in the sand.
This is the scene of the start
of Ocean City's annual Easter
egg hunt
To the uninitiated, the charge
of enthusiastic youth can be a
startling spectacle. Huge
billows of sand dust spurt
heavenward. Confusion
triumphs momentarily as the
youngsters scramble for plastic
bags of treats and money
buried by the city's public *
works department.
In 90 seconds, however, the
event is completed and those
youngsters who have failed to
dig up a prize are given special
packets of jelly beans.
The action takes place on the
6th St. beach. Parents are
advised to accompany their
children' and prepare them for
the jostling that is certain to
ensue.
This colorful sprint is one of
four special events scheduled
by the city each year at Easter.
"The Spring Swing," a
major surfing contest, also held
on Saturday, 10 a.m. at the 10th
St. beach. Leading surfers from
throughout the east compete in
insulated wet suits that protect
them from the cool waters.
The event is sponsored by the
city recreation department and
Ocean City Surfing Association.
During the summer, this resort
holds weekly surfing contests.
Dates and times are available
from the recreation department.
On Easter morning, 6 a.m.,
the inspirational sun rise
THE RABAT PHILOSOPHY
service is held at the city's
Music Pier, boardwalk and
Moorlyn Ter. This nondenominational
service is open
to the public.
The sermon is given as the
sun rises over the water and
normally fills the l.OOOcapadty
pier. Admission is free.
