Ocean City opened its 1978
cross country season with a 20-
37 win over Oakcrest last
Friday afternoon. It was the
first meet in what Coach Jim
Harris hopes will be a suc-
cessful season.
Though they saw Falcon
sophomore Danny Owens cross
the line first. Ocean City took
the next five spots.
Scott Palmer was second,
seven seconds behind Owens,
with Ed Megargee only a
second behind him in third
place. Brian MacDonald was
fourth, Craig Welch fifth and
Ibny Hughes sixth. They were
all within 17 seconds of each
other.
"We have 30 people out for
the team" Harris said last
week, "which is about 20
percent more than in previous
years."
And at least four of those

Ocean City High School this
year has instituted an all-
purpose athletic pass which, for
one price, will be honored at all
home sporting contests
throughout the year.
The passes sell for IS for
students and $10 for adults and
are good at any home event
regardless of the sport, ac-
cording to Athletic Director
Dixie Howell.
Howell said the pass
represents $25 worth of savings
for students and up to ISO in
savings for adults.
The athletic passes are
available at the main offices of
the high school, 6th St. and
Atlantic Av., intermediate
school, 18th St. and Bay Av. and
primary school, 5th St. and
West Av.
Hughes are Juniors.

Ocean City High School to be a
South Jersey power in 1978. He
is beginning to believe,
however, that his Raiders
might fool a lot of people this
football season.
After starting practice with
less than 30 candidates (it's
approaching 40 now) Woolley
has been generally pleased by
the team's performance
against Cinnaminson,
Mainland Regional and
Edgewood in pre-season ac-
tivity.
"Let's put it this way," said
the two-year head coaching
veteran, "there were more
good things happening than bad
things."
Woolley spent more time
preparing the offense for those
outings than the defense. "It
always takes longer to get the
offense going," he said; "and
we did struggle a bit. But our
