Another telegram from Dr. R.C. Murphy (1887–1973) in New York informed the<br />

members of the Whitney South Sea Expedition (WSSE, see p. 144) that Hannibal<br />

Hamlin (1904–1982) was to remain the official leader until replaced by William<br />

F.Coultas (of similar age) whowasalready onhisway, together with Walter Eyerdam
