Subshrubs, 15–28 cm tall, with a thick stock, densely gray<br />

or yellowish and sericeous-pubescent. Lower and middle stem<br />

leaves: petiole 5–20 mm. Lower leaves ovate or elliptic-ovate,<br />

1.5–2.5 × 0.8–1.8 cm, 2-pinnatisect; segments 3 or 4 pairs; lobules<br />

linear or linear-lanceolate, 4–5 × 0.5–2 mm. Middle stem<br />

leaves elliptic-ovate, 10–20 × 5–15 mm, 1(or 2)-pinnatisect;<br />

segments 3(or 4) pairs; lobules 4–10(–18) × 1–1.5 mm. Uppermost<br />

leaves and leaflike bracts 3- or 5-sect or entire. Synflorescence<br />

a lax, narrow panicle. Capitula initially dense, later lax.<br />

Involucre ovoid or subglobose, 2.5–3.5(–4) mm in diam.; phyllaries<br />

puberulent or glabrescent. Marginal female florets 5–15.<br />

2-pinnatisect or -partite; segments 3 pairs. Middle stem<br />

leaves sessile; leaf blade 1(or 2)-pinnatisect or -partite; lobules<br />

linear, linear-lanceolate, or falcate-lanceolate, 3–15 × 1.5–2.5<br />

mm, margin nearly revolute, apex obtuse or acuminate, mucronulate;<br />

margin revolute, midvein white, prominent abaxially. Uppermost<br />

Plantae suffruticosae; caules multi erecti vel ascendentes,<br />

ramis ascendentibus brevibus angustis; indumentum ex trichomatibus<br />

medifixis adpressis constans. Folia 1(ad 2)-pinnatisecta,<br />

segmentis 3- ad 5-jugatis asymmetrice 3(ad 5)-lobatis,<br />

lobulis ultimis oblanceolatis usque anguste oblongis interdum<br />

falcatis 4–7(–10) × 0.9–1.5 mm. Synflorescentia paniculata<br />

anguste cylindrica, ramis erectis brevibus. Involucrum ovoideum<br />

parts glabrescent; branches ascending, short, narrow. Basal<br />

and lower stem leaves usually withered by anthesis; pseudostipules<br />

absent; petiole 1–2.5 cm; leaf blade ± oblong to oblanceolate<br />

in outline, 1–2.5 × 0.6–1.5 cm, 1(–2)-pinnatisect, abaxially<br />

adpressed pubescent, adaxially glabrous or glabrescent;<br />
