Yonekura.<br />

Herbs, perennial, 30–40 cm tall, with slender fibrous roots.<br />

Stems much branched above middle. Lower branches long,<br />

spreading; upper branches ascending; stem and branches graywhite,<br />

pubescent, especially in upper part. Basal and lower<br />

leaves pinkish at anthesis. Middle stem leaves sessile; leaf blade<br />

broadly obovate-elliptic or elliptic, 1.5–2 × ca. 1 cm, both surfaces<br />

gray-white, densely appressed pubescent or villous, 2-pinnatisect;<br />

primary lateral segments 2- or 3-paired; ultimate segments<br />

narrowly elliptic, oblanceolate, or falcate, apex acute.<br />

Upper leaves and leaves below synflorescence small, pinnatifid<br />

or palmatifid. Synflorescence a terminal compound flat-topped<br />

panicle. Capitula many. Involucres broadly campanulate, 5–6<br />

mm in diam.; phyllaries in 3 rows, scarious margin broad,<br />

dark brown, outer ones narrowly elliptic, ca. 2 mm, abaxially<br />

sparsely villous, middle and inner ones elliptic or oblanceolate,<br />

ca. 4 mm, middle ones sparsely villous abaxially, inner ones<br />

glabrous abaxially. Florets yellow; marginal female florets 6,<br />

corolla narrowly tubular, ca. 1.2 mm, apex truncate or obliquely<br />

truncate; disk florets many, corolla tubular. Fl. Aug.<br />

with slender fibrous roots; cataphylls brown, ovate. Stems<br />

erect, shortly branched at apex, red-purple, pubescent, especially<br />

in upper part. Petiole ca. 1 cm; leaf blade broadly ovate or<br />

ovate, 2–5 × 1.5–4 cm, abaxially gray-white, densely pubescent,<br />

adaxially green, glabrous or sparsely pubescent, 2-pinnatisect;<br />

primary lateral segments 2–4-paired, dense, 3–5 mm<br />

apart; ultimate segments linear-lanceolate or narrowly elliptic.<br />

Leaves below synflorescence small. Synflorescence a large, terminal,<br />

compound flat-topped panicle. Capitula many. Involucres<br />

campanulate, 2.5–3 mm in diam.; phyllaries in 4 rows,<br />

scarious margin brown, outer ones ovate or lanceolate, ca. 1.5<br />

mm, abaxially puberulent, middle and inner ones elliptic to oblanceolate<br />

or lanceolate, ca. 2.5 mm, abaxially glabrous. Florets<br />

yellow, exterior with sessile glands; marginal female florets<br />

4–7, corolla narrowly tubular, apex 3-denticulate; disk florets<br />

many, corolla tubular. Achenes ca. 0.8 mm. Fl. and fr. Jul–Sep.<br />

pubescent, especially in upper part and on peduncles. Middle<br />

stem leaves: petiole 3–5 mm; leaf blade ovate, broadly ovate,<br />

or broadly cuneate, 1.5–2 × 0.5–2 cm, abaxially gray-white,<br />

densely appressed pubescent, adaxially pale green, sparsely pubescent,<br />

2-pinnatisect; primary lateral segments 1- or 2-paired;<br />

ultimate segments linear; lower and upper leaves 3–5-pinnatisect.<br />

Synflorescence a terminal flat-topped panicle. Capitula<br />

many. Involucres campanulate, 4–5 mm in diam.; phyllaries in<br />

4 or 5 rows, scarious margin brown, apex rounded or obtuse,<br />

outer ones ovate-lanceolate or ovate, ca. 1.5 mm, abaxially pubescent,<br />

middle and inner ones elliptic or ovate-elliptic, 3–3.5<br />

mm, middle ones pubescent abaxially. Florets yellow or orange,<br />

lower parts with sessile glands; marginal female florets ca. 7,<br />

corolla narrowly tubular, apex acutely 3- or 4-denticulate; disk<br />

florets many, corolla tubular.<br />

smaller. Synflorescence a terminal, rather large, compound flattopped<br />

panicle, 3–5 cm in diam. Involucres campanulate, 2.5–<br />

3.5 mm in diam.; phyllaries in 4 rows, scarious margin yellowbrown<br />

or deep brown, apex obtuse or rounded, outer ones triangular-lanceolate,<br />

ca. 3 mm, abaxially sparsely pubescent,<br />

middle and inner ones elliptic, ca. 4 mm, abaxially glabrous.<br />

Florets yellow, exterior with sessile glands; marginal female<br />

florets 8, corolla narrowly tubular, ca. 1.8 mm, apex 2- or 3denticulate;<br />

disk florets many, corolla tubular, ca. 2.5 mm.<br />
