Minor Hex<br />
Stress: 4<br />
Requires: Sciomancy 2, Binding 1-4<br />
Description: You send your Shadow to attack or<br />
inconvenience a target! <strong>The</strong> result <strong>of</strong> this is usually<br />
not actual damage but rather some related misfortune.<br />
<strong>The</strong> GM will usually not run the actual attack (this is<br />
far more conceptual and could involve several attacks<br />
over time!).<br />
Ritual: <strong>The</strong> ritual is done and then the character has<br />
Occult Skill x Level x 10 minutes to reach the target.<br />
When the target is reached there is either a noticeable<br />
gesture (Occult skill Level 2) or a subtle gesture<br />
(Lvl 3), or nothing (Level 4). If the ritual involves a<br />
weapon that weapon will be carried by the Shadow<br />
(but not the Magician) for the duration.<br />
Usually an Occult Roll is made when the target is<br />
sighted.<br />
Magician is equal or<br />
superior to the target<br />
in combat<br />
Magician is inferior to<br />
the target (an unarmed<br />
normal guy vs. an<br />
experienced brawler)<br />
Magician is greatly<br />
inferior to the target<br />
(a wimp vs. a large,<br />
trained fighter)<br />
Target is “hard”<br />
(bodyguards, armored<br />
installation, would be<br />
hard to approach or<br />
assassinate)<br />
Binding Level Notes<br />

Effects as noted. Weapons<br />
can help with this although<br />
at the lower Binding levels<br />
they don’t make the effect<br />
more severe.<br />
Effect is one binding level<br />
down.<br />
Roll an 8- to effect the<br />
target. If the roll is a<br />
12- the Magician suffers<br />
an inconvenience or<br />
misfortune. (GM’s choice)<br />
This hex is usually useless<br />
against such targets.<br />
<strong>The</strong> effect is inconvenience. <strong>The</strong><br />
subject will get a headache, spill<br />
c<strong>of</strong>fee on themselves, etc.<br />

<strong>The</strong> effect is misfortune. <strong>The</strong> GM<br />
will determine if the Magician has<br />
a decent chance to inflict damage.<br />
If so, the effect will probably<br />
be something less than a minor<br />
wound. It may also take several<br />
minutes or hours to take hold. An<br />
assault on Chessboard One or Two<br />
could equate to a sprained ankle<br />
on Chessboard Zero. If the ritual<br />
involves a weapon then the Shadow<br />
will be able to use that weapon for<br />
Occult Skill x 10 x Level minutes<br />
after the ritual (a Level 3 14- roll<br />
would get 7 hours after the ritual to<br />
find their target).<br />
<strong>The</strong> ritual may involve a weapon<br />
if necessary to give the Magician<br />
the edge necessary over the target<br />
(however, worse weapons won’t<br />
inflict worse misfortune).<br />
<strong>The</strong> effect is death or damage.<br />
Something “plausible” will happen<br />
for one attack rolled with no<br />
Damage Bonus as per the weapon<br />
type used. <strong>The</strong> physical effect may<br />
be environmental (a car crash) or<br />
biological (a heart attack).<br />
This may happen any time within<br />
one to ten minutes after the<br />
character is targeted.<br />
Damage is by weapon type and<br />
happens directly as though with a<br />
shot (this will effect hard targets if<br />
the Magician can get in range).<br />
Mesmerize<br />
Stress: 2<br />
Requires: Sciomancy 2, Binding 3<br />
Twist Shadow 4 or 8<br />
Description: <strong>The</strong> Magician’s Shadow uses a hypnotic<br />
aura and glamour to entrance the subject’s Shadow<br />
and distort its perceptions. A strong binding to the<br />
target person means they can be compelled to do one’s<br />
bidding.<br />
Ritual: This depends on the Magician’s skill level.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Magician must have blood or<br />
hair from the subject and do the ritual<br />
using that.<br />
