awareness into the outer reaches of space. It conceives of the human<br />
body as the physical substratum to highest awareness, and the raw<br />
material for further transformation, where even conjugal love and<br />
sex are considered a means to supreme joy and spiritual edification;<br />
its unconventional and spontaneous approach to life, with its<br />
psycho-experimental content, offers a complete reorientation of<br />
our outlook on the world at large.<br />
Similarly important are tantra's concepts of the polarity<br />
principle determining the relationship between man and woman, a<br />
creative interaction in which the conflict between outward and<br />
inward, of head and heart, can be resolved. In the tantric method,<br />
the female force is all-important, since it offers the key to a creative<br />
life in the act of living it. The preponderance of masculinity, with<br />
its aggressiveness and relative lack of feminine qualities, has created<br />
an imbalance in today's society. To experience the basic sensation<br />
of being 'I' in its totality is to equilibrate the two opposites,<br />
masculinity and feminity. In tantric terms it means a synthesis, a<br />
development of feminity within each one of us. The higher our<br />
spiritual evolution, the more feminine-affirmative will be our level<br />
of consciousness, in relation to the masculine-negative.<br />
Thus tantra opens up a new vista in its ideological and spiritual<br />
concepts, and its spectrum of experiential techniques provides a<br />
possible psychotherapeutic alternative in the quest of a love and joy<br />
that unite.<br />
