RITES
CIRCLE RITE
Purpose: To set up a holy enclosure of warding and power for the performance of a rite.
Earthly Tools: Gandr or sax; otherwise, as needed for following ritual.
I. Facing north, with gandr or sax in your strong hand, begin meditative breathing until you have
reached a state of semi-trance. Draw your earthly circle around you or trace over its lines, charging them
with bright-burning power. Your arm stretched out fully, trace the rune fehu large in the north, singing its
name three times as you write its shape in glowing red before you. Turn to the northeast, your arm still
stretched out, tracing a band of red power with the point of the gandr or sax and do the same with uru~
the east with thurisaz, etc. so that the last rune of the first turn is wunjo in the northwest. Complete the
circle of light, which you should now see as a sphere around you merging with the borders of your earthly
circle, and continue onward with the other two aettir in the same manner, till you have made three turns
and finished with othala in the northwest. It should appear to you now that you stand in the middle of a
threefold sphere glowing red with the eight runic triads ringed at the heavenly aettir.
