MusLi - No qualifications needed: museums and new audiences
The minority nationality group was very happy to be invited and to have the opportunity to describe
their experience in Hungary and talk about their roots. It was very important for them to show how their
culture has contributed to, changed or formed certain areas of Hungarian culture.
We invited them without any preconditions, which made them very happy to create their own “show”
in the way they wanted. Their self-esteem was increased by the invitation to the museum. They were
given confidence in their own importance. The audience gained more information about the Museum
itself, including the knowledge that a museum can be a place for entertainment and recreation. They
were assured about the importance of their presence; in addition they could ask or make comments
and remarks. The programme helped them to bring up old memories and to find partners to have conversations
with.
